Mutton Malvani

Malvan is a coastal region in Konkan as as the name suggests Malvani cuisine is from this region. Malvani food is popular in India. As it is a coastal region, most the dishes have coconut.

  • Dry roast all the ingredients for the Malvani Masala in a frying pan until it emits a lovely aroma. Let it cool and the grind it all into a fine paste using little water as necessary.
  • Wash and clean mutton and cut into medium cubes.
  • Chop onions. Heat oil in a pan and fry onions until golden brown.
  • Now add the mutton pieces, ginger - garlic paste, chilli paste, salt and turmeric into the pan. Fry the mutton pieces for 10 minutes.
  • Now add in the ground Malvani spices, mix well and add in about 2 cups of water. Then add in the tamarind paste/lemon juice. Cover the pan and cook about 30 to 40 minutes on low flame. Stir it well in between and check for seasonings.
  • Add fresh chopped coriander leaves for garnish and serve hot.
