Kerala Chicken Stew

Here is a Chicken Stew recipe from my home state of Kerala. This delicious stew is often served with Kerala style pal appams.

  • Marinate chicken pieces in slat, turmeric, lemon juice and 2 tbsp. each of the ginger and garlic paste. Keep in refrigerator for about 2 hours.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add half of the whole spices along withe the chopped onions and green chillies. Let this cook until the onions are translucent about 10 minutes.
  • Now add the ginger and garlic paste along with the marinated chicken and sauce for about 10 minutes.
  • Make a paste out of the rest of the whole spices.
  • Add this paste to the chicken and add the coconut milk. Let this cook covered for about 30 minutes on medium flame.
  • Now add the carrot and potatoes and let this cook about 7 minutes until the vegetables are cooked.
  • Check for seasonings and garnish with sautéed curry leaves. Serve with Kerala pal appams or rice.
