The American muffins are not anything like the English muffins (which are in fact a type of leavened bread), and are one of the easiest snacks/desserts/breakfast to put together. Most of the ingredients used for American muffins are staples in most pantries and one can add things such as blueberries, chocolate chips, raspberries, banana, lemon or various types of nuts. Here in this easy recipe, I am using substituting Canadian Maple syrup for part of the sugar. Unlike cake batter, muffins are much easier to put together. In fact, it is better to not over work on mixing the muffin batter in order to obtain smooth delicate muffins.

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Mix together the flours, baking pd, baking soda, cinnamon pd and all spice, and set aside.
- Mix the lightly beaten egg, brown sugar, maple syrup, butter milk and melted butter.
- Stir in the dry ingredients. Do not over stir at this point, or you will build up the gluten and will make tough muffins.
- Finally, fold in the apples and raisins into the mixture.
- Spoon the batter into prepared muffin cups and bake in a preheated oven for about 15 to 18 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
- For glaze, combine confectioners sugar and maple syrup and drizzle over muffins.
