Thai Fried Bananas

Fried Bananas is a popular dessert from Thailand. It is often served with coconut or vanilla ice cream. In South East Asia, especially Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, this is often sold by street food vendors. It is made with baby bananas but regular bananas can also be used for this dish as long as it is not over ripe. Here is a easy recipe. If you don't want to make the batter from scratch, you can use store bought spring roll wraps.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp. sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 tbsp. grated coconut
  • pinch salt to taste
  • 1/2 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 bananas
  • some oil to deep fry
Instructions
  1. Heat oil for deep frying in a wok.
  2. Make a thick batter with all the ingredients, except oil and bananas.
  3. Peel bananas, slit them into half lengthwise. Now cut each halves into two or three equal sized pieces.
  4. Once the oil is hot, dip each banana slice into the batter and eep fry until golden brown evenly for about 1 minute. Remove the fried banana pices and drain on paper towels.
  5. This Thai Fried Bananas are best served with ice cream. You may also drizzle some powdered sugar or chocolate syrup and serve it on a platter.
